| Additional information |
Turkmenistan declared independence from the Soviet Union in October 1991, but didn't introduce its own currency — the manat and its fractional teňňe — until November 1993, making this among the first coins ever struck for the newly sovereign state. The entire 1993 series was produced abroad, as Turkmenistan had no domestic minting infrastructure of its own.
