The Altyn Kyran — "Golden Eagle" in Kazakh — was a state honor established in 1995 as one of the first national orders created after Kazakhstan's independence from the Soviet Union. This circulation commemorative was issued as part of a broader series honoring Kazakh state symbols and decorations, a project that occupied the National Bank through much of the 2000s. The nickel silver composition was a deliberate budget concession — the series prioritized wide accessibility over precious metal content.
