Additional information

Kenya's Central Bank marked its 50th anniversary in 2016 with this issue, commemorating the institution established in 1966 when Kenya moved to replace the East African Currency Board — a colonial-era body that had served Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania jointly since 1919. The dissolution of that shared monetary arrangement was itself contentious, delayed repeatedly by disagreements over asset division among the three newly independent states.

Gold-plated copper-nickel at this specification is the standard flan used across dozens of commemorative programs worldwide, sourced almost universally from a handful of European blank suppliers.
