The surrounding copper-nickel ring bears two Cyrillic legends separated by dot stops: «КРАСНАЯ КНИГА» (RED DATA BOOK) arching across the top and «ПЕСЧАНЫЙ СЛЕПЫШ» (SANDY MOLE-RAT) along the bottom.
