Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a dynamic figure of a biathlete in full stride on skis, rendered in high relief against a stylized background suggestive of a traditional Belarusian ornamental pattern in the lower field. A large crescent-shaped arc frames the athlete on the left and lower portions of the design. The Olympic rings symbol appears within a square cartouche in the upper right field. The legend БЕЛАРУСЬ АЛIМПIЙСКАЯ is inscribed along the upper portion of the coin in Cyrillic characters.

Aanvullende informatie

Belarus issued this coin in 1997 as part of its early Olympic sports series, one of several gold and silver programs the newly independent National Bank used to establish a presence in the international collector market following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Biathlon had particular resonance in the former Soviet sporting apparatus — the USSR had dominated the discipline through the Cold War era, and Belarus inherited much of that infrastructure, including the Raubichi sports complex outside Minsk.
