| 裏面の説明 | The reverse displays a dynamic figure of a biathlete in full stride on skis, rendered in high relief against a stylized background suggestive of a traditional Belarusian ornamental pattern in the lower field. A large crescent-shaped arc frames the athlete on the left and lower portions of the design. The Olympic rings symbol appears within a square cartouche in the upper right field. The legend БЕЛАРУСЬ АЛIМПIЙСКАЯ is inscribed along the upper portion of the coin in Cyrillic characters. |

Belarus issued this coin in 1997 as part of its early Olympic sports series, one of several gold and silver programs the newly independent National Bank used to establish a presence in the international collector market following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Biathlon had particular resonance in the former Soviet sporting apparatus — the USSR had dominated the discipline through the Cold War era, and Belarus inherited much of that infrastructure, including the Raubichi sports complex outside Minsk.
