| Obverse description | Central device features a large royal crown rendered in fine detail, with arched bands, fleur-de-lis ornaments, and a beaded circlet, set within a dotted inner border. The date appears below the crown in the lower field. The circular legend reading LUDOVICUS · I · PORT: ET · ALG: REX is distributed around the periphery, separated by small six-pointed star ornaments at the base. The overall design is restrained and heraldic in character, consistent with the coinage of King Luiz I of Portugal. |

| Reverse description | The denomination 50 REIS is inscribed in two lines at the center of the field in bold, incuse lettering. The central inscription is framed by a symmetrical wreath composed of two olive branches, tied at the base with a ribbon bow and extending upward along either side of the field. A row of beads runs along the inner border. The design is clean and typographically simple, consistent with Portuguese decimal coinage of the second half of the nineteenth century. |
