Surrounding the central numeral is a circular Arabic commemorative legend occupying the upper and lateral portions of the field, recording the founding of the United Arab Republic on 22 February 1958. To the lower left and right of the numeral appear the Hijri year 1378 and the Gregorian year 1959 respectively. Below the denomination, the denomination in words 'قرشاً سورياً' (Syrian Piastres) is inscribed. The entire design is enclosed within a reeded border. |
