Obverse description The Syrian national emblem — the Hawk of Quraish facing forward with wings displayed — occupies the central field, its breast bearing a shield with the national tricolor. The hawk's talons grasp a scroll inscribed with the country name in Arabic. The Gregorian year (1972) appears in Arabic-Indic numerals at lower left and the Hijri year (1392) at lower right, flanking the base of the emblem. A circular legend in Arabic runs along the upper periphery reading 'Arab Republic of Syria'. The coin is bordered by a beaded rim.
