Obverse description A central device of a sheaf of rice stalks, depicted in high relief with detailed grain heads fanning outward, dominates the field. The circular legend in Burmese script arcs around the upper portion of the coin, reading the name of the issuing bank, while the date in Burmese numerals appears to the lower left and right of the central motif. The design was issued in connection with the FAO campaign promoting agricultural development and food production.

Additional information

Issued under the FAO's "Food for All" campaign of the mid-1970s, this piece was part of a coordinated global program that prompted dozens of nations to strike commemorative circulation coinage promoting agricultural development. Burma's participation aligned with Ne Win's socialist government, which had nationalized the country's entire banking sector in 1969, folding it under the Union of Burma Bank — the sole issuing authority by the time these were struck.
