Opmerkingen

The Bank of Victoria was absorbed into the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in 1910 following the Commonwealth Bank Act, which effectively ended the note-issuing rights of Australian state banks. This note dates from that transitional window — almost certainly printed in anticipation of demand that was then cut short by federation-level banking reform before meaningful circulation could occur.

Bradbury, Wilkinson produced the plate work in London, as was routine for Australian colonial and early federation-era issuers who lacked domestic security printing infrastructure of comparable quality. At the £50 denomination, surviving examples are exceptionally rare regardless of condition — high-value notes of this period were typically cancelled and destroyed upon redemption rather than retained.
