| Opis awersu | Central device depicts the Sudanese national emblem: a secretary bird with wings displayed, perched upon and grasping a Mahdist shield and two crossed spears, with a scroll below bearing the Arabic legend of the state name. Flanking the central emblem in the field are bold Arabic legends denoting the commemorative theme of the 15th Hijri Century. The denomination is expressed in both Arabic numerals (٥٠ جنيه) to the lower left and in Latin characters (Ls. 50) to the lower right. Along the lower periphery, a Latin legend reads '1979 SUDAN 1400' and 'ISLAMIC WORLD 15TH CENTURY', with the Hijri year 1400 also present. The coin features a beaded border encircling the entire design. |

The 15th Hijrah Century commemorative series was issued by Sudan to mark the beginning of the Islamic century corresponding roughly to 1979–1980 CE. Piedfort strikes — double-thickness blanks produced in limited numbers — were a format increasingly used by Middle Eastern and African central banks during this period to generate hard currency revenue and appeal to specialist collectors, rather than for any monetary function.
KM#PA12 designation places this outside the regular coinage sequence, confirming its status as a pattern or semi-official issue rather than a circulating piece.
