Beschrijving voorzijde Central device features the Sudanese state emblem, a secretary bird with wings displayed, perched upon and clutching a Mahdist shield, with a scrolled banner below bearing the Arabic inscription 'Jumhuriyyat al-Sudan' (Republic of Sudan). The denomination appears flanking the lower central field, '٥٠' in Arabic-Indic numerals to the left and 'L.S. 50' in Latin numerals to the right, with 'جنيه' (pounds) inscribed in Arabic script at lower left. A bold Arabic legend arcs across the upper field commemorating the fifteenth Hijri century. The lower exergue bears 'SUDAN' in Latin capitals flanked by the Hijri year '١٤٠٠' to the right and the Gregorian year '١٩٧٩' to the left, with the outer rim exhibiting a fine beaded border throughout.

Beschrijving keerzijde The central field displays a panoramic view of two Islamic holy sites: the Dome of the Rock mosque with its characteristic dome and arcade at left, and a fortified mosque complex with towers and crenellated walls at right, rendered within a crescent-shaped arc. Above the architectural scene, two ornate medallions are mounted on a stylised candelabra-like stem, the right medallion bearing the Arabic word 'الله' (Allah) and the left medallion bearing 'محمد' (Muhammad), both enclosed within decorative rope borders. An Arabic inscription in the upper field above the medallions provides the Hijri date. The lower portion of the field features elaborate arabesque foliate ornamentation within the crescent arc. The rim is bounded by a continuous beaded border.
