| Obverse description | Central device features the Sudanese state emblem, a secretary bird with wings displayed, perched upon and clutching a Mahdist shield, with a scrolled banner below bearing the Arabic inscription 'Jumhuriyyat al-Sudan' (Republic of Sudan). The denomination appears flanking the lower central field, '٥٠' in Arabic-Indic numerals to the left and 'L.S. 50' in Latin numerals to the right, with 'جنيه' (pounds) inscribed in Arabic script at lower left. A bold Arabic legend arcs across the upper field commemorating the fifteenth Hijri century. The lower exergue bears 'SUDAN' in Latin capitals flanked by the Hijri year '١٤٠٠' to the right and the Gregorian year '١٩٧٩' to the left, with the outer rim exhibiting a fine beaded border throughout. |
