| Additional information |
The 15th Hijrah Century began in 1979 by the Gregorian calendar, and several Islamic nations issued commemorative coinage to mark the occasion. This aluminium piece is an essai — a trial strike produced outside the normal mint production run, typically to test dies or present proposed designs to issuing authorities for approval. Sudan's essais from this period were largely struck at foreign mints, with the country's coinage dependent on contracted production well into the 1980s.
Aluminium essais rarely enter circulation and survive almost exclusively in institutional or specialist collections.
