| Reverse description | The reverse presents a highly detailed panoramic view of the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi) in Medina, with its distinctive green dome and flanking minarets rendered in fine relief. In the foreground, a large crescent moon rises from below, its horns framing an ornate arabesque floral motif. Above the mosque facade, two circular medallions joined by a decorative stem bear the names of Allah (الله) and the Prophet Muhammad (محمد) in Arabic calligraphy. A brief Arabic inscription appears at the top of the field. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner rim. |

The 15th Hijrah Century began in 1979 by the Gregorian calendar, and several Islamic nations issued commemorative coinage to mark the occasion. This aluminium piece is an essai — a trial strike produced outside the normal mint production run, typically to test dies or present proposed designs to issuing authorities for approval. Sudan's essais from this period were largely struck at foreign mints, with the country's coinage dependent on contracted production well into the 1980s.
Aluminium essais rarely enter circulation and survive almost exclusively in institutional or specialist collections.
