Additional information

Bangladesh issued its first coin series in 1973, just two years after independence from Pakistan following the Liberation War. The 50 Poisha was part of that inaugural national coinage, struck as the new state was still consolidating basic institutions — the Bangladesh Bank itself had only been established in 1972. Nickel brass was a practical choice for a country rebuilding its economy under acute resource constraints and significant postwar inflation.
