Anton Wieninger was a private merchant or innkeeper in the Bavarian market town of Regen who issued this notgeld token during the acute small-change shortage that gripped Germany in the early 1920s. Municipal and commercial emergency coinage of this kind filled a vacuum left when official zinc and aluminum coins were hoarded or melted as metal values rose against the collapsing mark.
