Dyckerhoff & Widmann was one of Imperial Germany's most prominent civil engineering firms, responsible for major reinforced concrete infrastructure across Europe. By 1918, the wartime metal shortage had gutted the Reichsbank's ability to supply small change, forcing municipalities and private employers alike to issue their own notgeld tokens — zinc being one of the few metals still available in quantity. This piece was almost certainly issued to pay workers directly, functioning as scrip redeemable within a closed company ecosystem rather than circulating freely.
