| Beschrijving voorzijde | Orange guilloche border frames the note on all sides, with the denomination numeral '50' and 'Pfennig' in blue letterpress at upper left and right corners. Eilenburg's municipal authority issued this note under the emergency currency framework that allowed German cities and towns to print their own small-denomination Kleingeld from 1914 onward, filling the gap left by hoarded coins. By 1917 the program was well into its chaotic middle phase — hundreds of municipalities had entered the market, print quality varied wildly, and the Reichsbank was largely indifferent to standardization at this level.
The watermark is worth noting: it was an unusual security commitment for a note of this denomination and origin, most comparable Notgeld from small Saxonian towns relying on paper alone.
