The denomination 'Fünfzig- Pfennig' is set in Gothic blackletter script across the top, flanked by two elliptical guilloche panels. The date 'Bad Sachsa den 1. Bad Sachsa's municipal notgeld was part of the vast wave of small-denomination emergency paper issued by German towns during the postwar coin shortage — but Louis Koch of Halberstadt was a regional printer with a specific footprint in Harz-area notgeld production, handling commissions for several neighboring municipalities in 1920–21.
