Calbe an der Milde is a small town in the Altmark region of Saxony-Anhalt, and its Verkehrs-Verein — a local trade and transport association — was among the thousands of municipal and commercial bodies that stepped in to fill the coin shortage that gripped Germany from 1916 onward.
