| Obverse description | Central vignette of the city arms of Altenburg: a crenellated tower in ochre and black flanked left by a red field bearing a white open hand, and right by a beige field with a red Tudor rose; at the base of the tower, a semicircular cartouche with a rampant lion in black. The denomination '50' appears in red at each upper corner with 'Pf.' in the lower corners, and decorative side borders of stylised floral scrollwork in red and black frame the composition.
