The composition of the reverse is clean and graphically bold, typical of mid-twentieth century German numismatic design. |

In 1968 the GDR's mint in Berlin produced a series of brass pattern pieces as part of an internal evaluation for circulating coinage redesigns that never reached production. The 50 Pfennig denomination was among several tested that year. KM#Pr6 represents one of the very few documented survivors of that process — patterns of this type were not released publicly and most were destroyed or retained in state collections.
