At right, the denomination '50' in a red circular cartouche flanked by diamond-shaped 'PF.' markers, above a four-line verse in Gothic script appealing to purchasers to support war widows and orphans, followed by redemption conditions, the place and date 'Hamburg, 1. A figure in military uniform, arms outstretched and bound to a large sword whose crossguard forms a crucifix, is surrounded by an aureole of radiating light; six iron crosses stand in a semicircle on the ground below, evoking a military cemetery. A red banner at the foot of the design carries a two-line commemorative inscription in Gothic script honouring the fallen. |
