| Opmerkingen |
Leather notgeld from the First World War period is among the more unusual emergency currency materials documented in German-speaking territories, but Bavarian issuers were particularly inventive. Gewerbebank Neuburg an der Donau was a small commercial lending institution serving the Neuburg district — not a municipal authority — making this a genuinely private-sector emergency issue rather than a town or city note.
The leather substrate creates chronic conservation problems: oils migrate, edges crack, and any previous mounting or lamination tends to leave irreversible staining. Unaltered, unmounted examples are the ones to seek.
