| 背面描述 | The municipal coat of arms of Donaueschingen occupies the central field, depicted as a heraldic shield bearing a spoked wheel over a horizontally lined lower half representing water, referencing the city's association with the source of the Danube. The legend 'KLEINGELD=ERSATZ' arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by small decorative rosette ornaments at either side of the lower field. The date '1918' is placed prominently below the shield. A continuous inner pearl border encircles the design, consistent with the obverse. |

Donaueschingen issued this iron notgeld piece in 1918 as the imperial war economy stripped copper and other base metals from municipal circulation entirely. The city sits at the confluence of the Brigach and Breg rivers — officially claimed as the source of the Danube — a geographical distinction the local authority had long used to assert civic identity. Iron coinage from this period corrodes aggressively, and genuinely uncirculated survivors are rarer than mintage figures suggest.
