The city sits at the confluence of the Brigach and Breg rivers — officially claimed as the source of the Danube — a geographical distinction the local authority had long used to assert civic identity. Iron coinage from this period corrodes aggressively, and genuinely uncirculated survivors are rarer than mintage figures suggest.
