Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse presents the large numeral '50' prominently centered in the field, rendered in bold relief. Encircling the denomination is a continuous Latin legend reading 'KREIS BÜDINGEN OBERHESSEN', distributed around the full periphery of the coin. A small six-pointed star or asterisk ornament appears at the base of the legend, serving as a decorative divider. The overall design is characteristically spare and modernist, consistent with the Expressionist aesthetic favored by engraver Ludwig Gies during the German Notgeld period.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued by the rural district of Büdingen in Hesse during Germany's post-WWI notgeld crisis, when the central government's coin supply collapsed entirely and local authorities were left to mint their own emergency currency in whatever base metals were available. Zinc was the pragmatic choice — iron was too scarce, aluminum too volatile in price.

Büdingen issues are reasonably well-documented in the Funck census, though die varieties across the series reward close attention. The .2 suffix on all three standard references indicates this is the secondary die state.
