Vorderseitenbeschreibung Olive-brown and black Notgeld note centred on an oval portrait vignette of Dr. Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch, framed within an ornate arched surround with decorative scrollwork underprint. The denomination '50' appears in large numerals at all four corners with 'PFENNIG' along the upper arc, while the issuing authority legend curves across the upper portion in Gothic script flanked by ornamental panels; the validity date '20. AUGUST 1921' is positioned to the right. Below the portrait, 'DER MAGISTRAT:' appears in bold with a facsimile signature, a serial letter 'SO' at bottom centre, and the artist credit 'A. UEBEL 1921' along the lower margin.

Rückseitenbeschreibung Olive-brown and black reverse dominated by a central vignette rendered in an expressive woodcut-like manner, illustrating the Baroque portal of the Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) in Delitzsch; the artist's name 'A. UEBEL' appears at the upper left of the vignette. Two heraldic lion shield devices, printed in olive, flank the central scene at left and right within the border. The legend 'DAS TOR DER MARIENKIRCHE.' is printed in bold capitals along the lower margin.

Anmerkungen

Delitzsch is a small Saxon town north of Leipzig, and like hundreds of similar municipalities, it resorted to printing its own fractional currency during the catastrophic coin shortage that followed World War I. The Reichsbank could not keep small denomination metal in circulation — hoarding and melting were rampant — so local magistrates across Germany became de facto issuers by necessity, not by any formal monetary authority.

The designer credit to A. Uebel is notable. Local Notgeld series were frequently farmed out to regional printers with anonymous house artists, so a named designer suggests either civic pride in the commission or a contract with a Leipzig-area commercial printer that kept individual credits. The DeNG reference covering variants 1 through 4 and 6 implies a fifth variety is either unconfirmed or was documented separately.
