Obverse description Salmon-toned note with a red and green decorative border incorporating floral corner ornaments and vertical line underprint panels on each side. At centre, a circular vignette reproduces the medieval seal of Aken, showing a bishop in full vestments standing between two crenellated towers, surrounded by the Latin legend of the city's ecclesiastical affiliation. The title inscription 'Stadt Aken/Elbe' appears in ornate Gothic script at the top, while validity text ('Dieser Gutschein verliert seine Gültigkeit 3 Monate nach Bekanntmachung') is set to the lower left, with the issuance date 'Aken, 1. Oktober 1921' and the manuscript facsimile signature of the Magistrat to the lower right. A serial number in Gothic typeface is printed on a scroll-like underprint at the base of the central vignette.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in red and olive-green on a cream ground, with bold red corner blocks each bearing the denomination numeral '50' in cream. A wide red header panel carries the denomination 'Fünfzig Pfennig' in large Gothic script, flanked by the numerals '50' on either side. The central vignette, executed in a coloured lithographic style and signed by the artist, presents a riverbank scene on the Elbe: a woman in period dress stands on the bank beneath a willow tree, while a ferryman poles a flat-bottomed boat with bathers swimming and standing in the river beyond, a timber-laden barge visible in the middle distance. Stylised Art Nouveau floral ornaments flank the vignette on left and right, and a two-line German verse in Gothic script occupies the lower panel.
