Obverse description Dark blue letterpress Notgeld note with the denomination '50 Pf' in bold Gothic type at the upper left and lower right corners, flanking the town name 'Helmarshausen an der Diemel' in large blackletter script beneath the heading 'Notgeld'. A detailed vignette at right illustrates the pilgrimage church of Gottsbüren set among trees, its steeple rising against a clouded sky, captioned 'Wallfahrtskirche Gottsbüren bei Helmarshausen a/d Diemel' along the lower border. The left field carries the validity date 'Gültig bis zum 1. März 1922', the issue date 'Helmarshausen, den 15. Mai 1921', the issuing authority 'Der Magistrat', a manuscript signature, and the circular town seal.

Reverse description Polychrome reverse printed in yellow, red, blue, and black, divided into two panels by an Art Nouveau border of stylized red blossoms and foliate geometric ornaments. The left panel, on a yellow ground, carries a four-stanza German poem in Gothic script signed 'J. Abt', recounting the miraculous history of the Gottsbüren pilgrimage site and its monastery. The right panel presents a devotional vignette of the body of Christ laid in repose, venerated by two dark-robed mourning figures beneath a radiating arch with candles and decorative drapery, framed by a curved inscription reading 'Toter wird als Leichnam Christi in der Kirche zu Gottesbüren aufgebahrt'.
Reverse lettering Wallfahrtsort ward Gottesbüren
Zu des Klosters reichem Segen,
Nach dem Wunder kamen Pilger
Aller Orten ihm entgegen.
Bringen ihre reichen Gaben,
Gold und Silber, Wachs und Kerzen,
Harren knieend, Heilung hoffend,
Gläubig schenkend mit dem Herzen.
Und so war für lange Zeiten
Auch des Klosters Not behoben,
Immer flossen reiche Spenden,
Ja, das Wunder war zu loben!
J. Abt.
