Beschrijving voorzijde Brown letterpress notgeld on plain paper with a border frame. To the left, a vignette of a standing male figure in traditional Waldeck regional costume, carrying a rolled bundle over his shoulder and leaning on a staff. At upper right, a circular municipal seal inscribed 'SIEGEL DER GEMEINDE WILLINGEN' enclosing a six-pointed star on a shield. The denomination 'Fünfzig 50 Pfennig' is set in decorative typography at centre, above a German-language redemption text referencing the Gemeindekasse Willingen, a handwritten signature of the Gemeinde-Vorstand, and a serial number. At the lower left, a ribbon scroll carries a local dialect verse in Low German; the place and date 'Willingen, (Waldeck) 15. April 1921' appear at lower right.

Opmerkingen

Willingen's 1921 notgeld issue belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — the so-called "Serienscheine" phase, when towns began treating small-denomination scrip as a minor revenue source, printing attractive themed sets deliberately aimed at collectors rather than cashiers. Whether Willingen's issue was genuinely driven by the coin shortage or simply opportunistic is a fair question; by mid-1921, many Waldeck district municipalities were doing both simultaneously.

Waldeck-Pyrmont had only formally merged into Prussia in 1929, so in 1921 this was still issued under a technically independent administrative structure — a small but real distinction from the surrounding Prussian notgeld.
