Obverse description Printed in dark red and violet on cream paper, the obverse carries a pale blue-grey underprint vignette of the Gotha city panorama — rooftops, church spires, and townscape — across the lower half. The upper portion is occupied by a block of Gothic-script (Fraktur) text setting out the Notgeld legal tender conditions, introduced by a large ornate red initial capital 'D', with the issuing authority legend 'Der Stadtrat' and facsimile signature of Dr. Scheffler as Oberbürgermeister centred below. The denomination '50 Pfennige' is rendered in bold red Fraktur along the lower edge, the serial number printed vertically in the left margin, and the place and date 'Gotha, 15. Juli 1921' positioned centrally.

Reverse description Printed in deep red and black on cream paper within a red ruled border and fine cross-hatched frame, the reverse centres on a letterpress-style illustrative vignette of a bearded man — identified by inscription as Herr Augustin — distributing bread from a large pot to a crowd of hungry children, with a faint oval underprint of a standing figure visible behind the scene. Gothic-script verses above and below the vignette reference the Quaker relief effort in post-war Gotha. The denomination numeral '50' appears in red at both upper corners.
