| Obverse description | The note is divided into three vertical panels enclosed within a dotted ornamental border: the flanking dark panels carry the denomination words 'Fünfzig' and 'Pfennig' respectively in white letterpress, together with the validity clause and redemption notice, while the central panel presents an oval colour-lithographic vignette of a medieval stone tower with adjacent buildings set in a landscape. A grey banner across the upper register bears a four-line German verse in black text, and the lower register displays the issuing authority 'Horn in Lippe', the date '1. Novemb. 1921', two manuscript signatures, and a printed serial number on a yellow ground. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is dominated by a large full-colour lithographic vignette of the Externsteine rock formation near Horn in Lippe, rendered in tones of green, grey, and blue, with the celebrated medieval carved relief of the Descent from the Cross occupying the rock face; a robed monk figure is seated in contemplation before a cave entrance to the right of the relief. Two circular orange medallions bearing the numeral '50' anchor the lower left and right corners, and a caption panel at the foot of the design identifies the subject in black letterpress. |
