Königswinter's 1921 Notgeld issue belongs to the second wave of German municipal emergency currency — by this point, many towns were treating Kleingeldscheine less as a stopgap and more as a local revenue source, selling sets to collectors who never spent them. Krings' involvement suggests the city commissioned the design locally rather than relying on a Leipzig or Berlin printing house's stock imagery, which was common practice among smaller Rhine towns during the period.
The 90 × 60 mm format places it among the smaller Notgeld pieces of the era, consistent with the inflationary pressures that were already compressing production budgets in 1921, a full two years before the hyperinflationary peak.
