The municipal arms of Glauchau — a white-and-red diagonal-striped shield — appear to the upper left, flanked by two owls at the foot of the lateral towers, with denomination roundels reading "50" on each side. Two text cartouches in Fraktur script are set into the lower wall panels, with the issuing authority legend "Notgeld der Stadt Glauchau" arched across the top and the date "Glauchau, 1. The central scene renders, in the manner of a paper-cut Scherenschnitt, a corpulent top-hatted burgher gesturing toward a young boy and a woman in traditional dress, with a small church steeple visible between the figures; the artist's signature appears in the lower left of the vignette. A Fraktur legend in the upper green panel and a second in the lower green panel complete the humorous verse. |
