Brockau was a small agricultural commune on the southeastern edge of Breslau — absorbed into the city entirely in 1928. This note dates from the peak of Germany's municipal Notgeld wave, when hundreds of local authorities printed their own small-denomination scrip to address the chronic shortage of coin that had been worsening since 1914. The Reichsbank simply couldn't keep low-value metal currency in circulation; it was hoarded or melted almost immediately.
Landgemeinde issues from villages this size were typically printed in short runs by local job printers, often on whatever stock was available. Survival rates vary sharply — some were redeemed in bulk and pulped, others were never turned in at all.
