| Description de l’avers | Notgeld (emergency currency) voucher printed in brown and black on cream paper, with a decorative border of fine saw-tooth and scroll ornament. The denomination 'Fünfzig' is rendered in large Gothic script on a scroll vignette at centre, with 'Pfennig' below and the numeral '50' repeated at left and right. A text block in Kurrent script states the redemption conditions, giving the place and date 'Emmerich, den 15. November 1918', followed by the legend 'Der Bürgermeister' with a manuscript signature. The municipal coat of arms of Emmerich — a shield charged with a fortified gate and two towers — is centrally placed, flanked symmetrically by two circular cartouches each bearing the denomination '50 Pfg.' in bold Gothic numerals and lettering. A serial number appears at top centre. At the base, a rectangular panel carries the city name 'Emmerich.' in large black Fraktur lettering, flanked by foliate ornamental blocks. |
