At top centre, the issuing authority is inscribed in Gothic blackletter followed by the word 'Gutschein' in large display type, with the numeral '50' repeated at each upper corner. A prominent central oval guilloche frame encloses the denomination spelled out in large Gothic script 'Fünfzig Pfennig', below which the place and date 'Lahr i/B. 12. Juni 1917' appear. At the foot of the note, two facsimile signatures are accompanied by the titles 'Oberbürgermeister' and 'Ratschreiber' flanking the text 'Der Stadtrat:', with a two-line validity and anti-counterfeiting notice in small letterpress at the very base. |

Flanking the central medallion are two smaller symmetrical elliptical guilloche rosettes, all set against a fine engine-turned network background covering the entire field. A curved partial inscription referencing the city appears along the upper and lower arcs of the central vignette. |
