Obverse description Printed in dark blue and black intaglio on white paper, the obverse is framed by a teal guilloche border enclosing the central Argentine coat of arms within an oval cartouche, with large ornate '50' numerals occupying each corner lozenge. A left-side vignette presents a gaucho scene with resting figures, while a finely engraved classical female portrait appears at lower right. The bold letterpress inscription 'EL BANCO NACIONAL' runs across the center, above the date line 'Buenos Ayres, Agosto 1º de 1873' and the promise text with spaces for the signatures of El Inspector and El Directorio.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in red-orange on plain paper, with four large guilloche medallions each bearing the numeral '50' placed at the four corners of the note. A lightly printed geometric underprint fills the central field, which is otherwise unadorned, consistent with the spare typographic style typical of mid-19th century South American banknote reverses.
