| 背面描述 | A Cuban tody (Todus multicolor), known locally as the cartacuba, is depicted perched on a brown branch at centre, rendered in polychrome enamel with vivid naturalistic colouring: a dark green head and upperparts, white underparts, a bright red throat patch, blue and pink lateral markings, and yellow undertail coverts. Green foliage occupies the right background, and a stylised green ground cover fills the lower field. The curved legend FAUNA DEL CARIBE arcs across the upper rim, with the species name CARTACUBA continuing along the right side. The date 1996 appears in the lower right field, accompanied by a small mint mark. |

Cuba issued a number of large-format silver pieces through the 1990s targeting the collector export market — hard currency the embargo-strangled economy badly needed. This tody series sits within that program, with the Cuban Tody (Todus multicolor) appearing on a coin almost certainly sold abroad before it ever reached a Cuban collector's hands.
The 155.5g planchet is a 5-troy-ounce specification, a format common to prestige wildlife issues of the period designed to compete with similar programs from the Royal Canadian Mint and Perth.
