| Mô tả mặt sau | A right-facing portrait bust of Christopher Columbus dominates the central field, rendered in high relief with naturalistic detail. The bust is encircled by a decorative wreath composed of olive branches interspersed with nautical and navigational emblems. The explorer's name appears in a legend below the portrait, while the commemorative inscription referencing the quincentenary of the discovery of America arcs across the upper and right periphery, accompanied by the dates 1990 and 1492. The mintmark and issue year are placed in the lower field, and a double rope border runs close to the coin's edge. |

| Thông tin bổ sung |
Cuba's outsized commemorative silver program of the late 1980s and early 1990s targeted the approaching quincentenary of Columbus's 1492 landing, and this 155.5-gram piece was among the most ambitious in that run. Havana had both ideological and hard-currency reasons to mint it: foreign numismatic sales generated dollars the embargo made scarce, while the Columbus anniversary gave socialist Cuba an unlikely but commercially viable hook into the Western collector market.
The JMA reference places it firmly within the Cuban export coinage series managed through the Joyería La Maison network.
