Obverse description Dark green intaglio-printed note with the bank title EL BANCO OCCIDENTAL in an arched banner across the top, flanked by numeral 50 counters in each upper corner. The central vignette is dominated by a large guilloche-framed numeral 50, with a vignette of a multi-story building to the left and a steamship or locomotive scene at a waterfront to the right. The lower border bears the date 1° de Setiembre de 1919, the place San Salvador, the denomination CINCUENTA PESOS, and the imprint of the American Bank Note Co., New York, with SPECIMEN overprints in red and cancellation punch holes.

Reverse description Reverse printed in dark brown/maroon on plain paper, with an elaborate symmetrical guilloche pattern covering the entire field. The numeral 50 appears in large ornate counters at left and right within intricate lathe-work rosettes. A central oval medallion contains the national arms of El Salvador, encircled by the bank name BANCO OCCIDENTAL and the legend REPUBLICA DE EL SALVADOR. The imprint AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY, NEW YORK appears at the lower margin.
