Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse is dominated by a central intaglio vignette of a cherub or infant figure seated amid flowers and foliage, rendered in a fine engraved style typical of American Bank Note Company production. To the lower left appears a seated male figure playing a guitar, while to the right a portrait vignette of a uniformed male dignitary is positioned within a guilloche-bordered panel; the denomination numeral '50' appears in each upper corner against a fine lathe-work underprint. Two manuscript signatures appear along the lower portion, one attributed to the Inspector and the other to the President of the Bank.

Opmerkingen

The Provincia de Buenos Ayres operated its own monetary system in parallel with, and often in open rivalry to, the Confederation's federal authorities — a tension that persisted well into the 1860s even after formal unification. The American Bank Note Company won a succession of contracts with Argentine provincial and national issuers during this period, outcompeting European firms on turnaround and security engraving. Their New York workshops produced the entire run of this series.

PS#490 is the Pick Specialized catalogue reference for provincial Argentine issues — worth noting for collectors who encounter this note filed under the national series by mistake.
