The Estado de Buenos Ayres operated its own currency system entirely separate from the Argentine Confederation during the period of political rupture that followed the 1852 Battle of Caseros. Buenos Aires refused to ratify the new federal constitution and functioned as an independent state until reunification in 1860 — this note circulates within that window.
PS433 is among the earlier issues of the Banco y Casa de Moneda de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. The cotton substrate was a deliberate choice against counterfeiting in a region where reprographic capacity was limited but fraud endemic.
