Jersey issued a lengthy series of WWI centenary 50 pence pieces between 2014 and 2018, each commemorating a specific figure or campaign. Kitchener's inclusion was inevitable — his face had arguably done more recruiting work than any other image in British history, appearing on the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee's 1914 poster before his death in June 1916 aboard HMS Hampshire, mined off Orkney.
Gold-plated steel in this format is a collector-grade souvenir piece rather than anything intended for circulation.
