| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts both faces of the Victoria Cross medal in high relief. To the left, the obverse of the cross pattée is shown suspended from its characteristic V-shaped suspender bar with laurel-leaf brooch bar above; the central medallion bears a crowned lion passant guardant above the scroll inscribed FOR VALOUR. To the right, the reverse of the medal is shown as a rayed star design with a circular central boss inscribed 29. JAN 1858., referencing the date of the first investiture. The initials VC appear prominently to the lower right of the field, with the denomination FIFTY PENCE inscribed below. The engraver's mark CAP appears at lower left. |
