Gibraltar has issued commemorative 50 pence pieces in staggering volume since the 1990s, many with little claim to numismatic significance beyond novelty. This colourised bat piece falls squarely in that tradition — a bullion-adjacent collectible aimed at thematic collectors rather than circulating currency users. The KM#1871.1 reference distinguishes the colourised version from a companion uncolourised type, both struck for the same release.
Vampire bats are native to Latin America, not Gibraltar — the connection is purely commercial.
