| Obverse description | The obverse bears the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting a right-facing crowned and draped bust of the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The engraver's initials IRB appear below the truncation of the neck. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY, with the date 2013 positioned to the lower right of the field. |

| Additional information |
Guernsey has long used its mint authority as a revenue stream, issuing commemorative 50 pence pieces on themes with no particular connection to the island. The Red Arrows, formally the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, were established in 1965 and have flown the BAe Hawk T1 since 1979. The gold plating on copper-nickel is a production shortcut common to this collector market segment — the plating is thin, and handling accelerates its loss from high contact points.
